Soles4Souls shoe, clothing drive to benefit Haiti school

MILLEDGEVILLE — Dianna Perdue and her first-graders hope to collect 1,500 new and gently-worn shoes and clothes to benefit those in need overseas through Soles4Souls, Inc.

‘Last year we collected 1,019 shoes and our goal this year is 1,500,’ Perdue said. ‘I will take them to the warehouse in Alabama on Presidents Day.’

Creekside Elementary School, Hardwick Baptist Church, Northridge Christian Church and other Baldwin County schools and churches in the community have become collection sites and will continue taking in items through Friday, Feb. 15.

At the February First Friday event, Perdue will sell raffle tickets in front of The Baldwin lofts for individuals to have a chance to win prizes donated by Blackbird Coffee, Buffington’s, Little Caesars, Goodie Gallery, T-Bone’s Nursery and Twin Lakes Beverage.

‘I went to Haiti in September and I went back in December to work at a school orphanage. The money raised will support that elementary school in Haiti,’ Perdue said.

Slated at 7 p.m. Monday at Blackbird, Rev. Jeff Mosier will host an evening of solegrass concert at which attendees are encouraged to bring a pair of shoes for admission and purchase raffle tickets.
