MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville Police Department confirmed a Monday traffic collision ended tragically with the death of a 19-year-old Sparta female. Tekeyah Mapp succumbed to head trauma Tuesday.

The accident occurred Monday around 2 p.m. near the intersection of North Jefferson and Briarcliff streets outside of the Flash Food Store.

Two vehicles were involved.

Major John Davis said Mapp was traveling northbound on North Jefferson Street when she swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle turning right into the convenience store.

“When she swung out, she overcorrected and the vehicle spun completely around into the southbound lane of traffic,” Davis said.

Mapp's car struck a truck heading south. The impact occurred on the driver side door.

Davis said the crash crushed her door leading to the severe injuries. She was unconscious at the scene.

“It's awful when anyone dies in an accident, but it's especially tragic when it's someone so young,” Davis said.
