College students Skip the Curb

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College students redirected furniture and other household items to a better place Friday in the inaugural Skip the Curb collaboration between Keep Milledgeville-Baldwin Beautiful, Milledgeville-Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity and Georgia College. As students moved out of university residence halls, six collection stations on main and West Campus nabbed perfectly useable items, which keeps waste out of landfills and allows someone in need the opportunity to afford the household items necessary to make a home. Sorted items went to either the Habitat ReStore or the No Sale Yard Sale at First United Methodist Church. In all, Skip the Curb acquired 66 cubic yards of items including eight futons, six refrigerators, seven microwaves and five vacuum cleaners. KMBB Executive Director Andrew Davis, together with volunteers Lin and Linda McKnight, are pictured during the Friday collection project. The Habitat ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, functioning household appliances, clean furnishings and building material surplus. All items are donated for sale, and the proceeds support Habitat's mission of eliminating substandard housing in Milledgeville-Baldwin County. Items may be donated Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The ReStore is located at 730 N. Wayne St.
