Foul play ruled out in infant death

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office is near completion in its investigation into the death of a 5-month old infant that occurred April 18.

The incident involved triplets that were in the care of their father.

"Our investigation determined that SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is most likely the cause of death," said Capt. Brad King of the sheriff’s office.

According to King, the sheriff's office received a call around 12:29 p.m. in reference to an incident occurring at a residence in the 100 block of Richard Drive.

Paramedics and Baldwin County Fire Rescue first responders accompanied law enforcement officials during the incident.

"We received a call around 12:30 p.m. to assist paramedics with an infant that had received burns," said Chief Troy Reynolds.

It was determined by law enforcement that the infant that was burned fell off the bed and landed against a space heater in the home.

"No foul play was observed," said King. "It's just a tragic accident for both children."

Reynolds said the child was treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta. King confirmed that the infant has been released.

The third child was unharmed. As of now, there are no charges in the case.

"I do not feel as if charges will be brought on the father. Once we confirm the autopsy report the case will be closed."
