Greenway market features Creative Expressions’ musical talents

MILLEDGEVILLE — As part of the Greenway Farmers Market’s first community awareness event, the musical talents of Creative Expressions consumers will be showcased with a concert.

The market at the Oconee River Greenway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday rain or shine. The band Jungle Royales are slated to perform at 10 a.m. if weather permits.

“In addition to our wonderful farmers and vendors and their produce and products, the Jungle Royales will perform. The Jungle Royales are made up of five adults with disabilities who are taught and assisted by Georgia College music therapy interns,” said Ginger Carter Miller, market volunteer. “It’s going to be a very cool 45 minute set featuring songs from The Beatles, U2 and some original music as well.”

Located at 1131 N. Jefferson St., Creative Expressions is an initiative of The Life Enrichment Center of Baldwin County, a nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality of life of individuals with developmental disabilities. Over the past decade, the program has promoted creativity and self-expression through music therapy, performing and visual arts. It is their mission to provide artists with disabilities the chance to dream, create and share their talents with their local community and beyond.

“Creative Expressions Studio gallery will have a booth of its wares that support Creative Expressions, including art, jewelry and CD’s from the band,” Miller said. “I think the Greenway market and Creative Expressions make a nice match because there are a lot of people who come across other people they don’t understand, and the more they spend time together, they realize that we’re more alike than different.”

The Greenway market will feature a food demonstration by a local chef or farmer on the first Saturday of each month; provide support to a local organization the second Saturday; a yard sale and arts and crafts the third Saturday; and community awareness with various activities the fourth Saturday. The weekly rotation will continue until the market closes in November.
