Swan’s Dry Cleaning set to reopen next month

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Won family of Swan’s Dry Cleaning are in the midst of reopening their small business in the former Pickle Barrel Building within a month’s time.

“We are hoping to open as soon as possible. Our estimated move-in date is mid- to end of July,” said Brian Won, son of the Swan’s owners.

The dry-cleaning merchant’s new 3,400 square foot space is located next to Krystal’s off North Columbia Street. Investment Nationwide Group, general contractor in Duluth, Ga., is currently restoring and rebuilding a new roof and walls, including electric lines and plumbing next week, after the former restaurant’s interior was burned and damaged from a fire in late 2009. The front patio to the building will be removed in order to create a driveway for the service area.

Previously located next to what is now Petsense in the Milledgeville Mall property for the past 15 years, Swan’s had no intentions of closing its doors in early March. Swan’s lease for the space didn’t expire until July 31, 2013, but Hull Storey Gibson, the management company of the local mall property, terminated the lease early after the announcement of Petsense came in August 2012.

Swan’s has not yet renewed their occupation tax certificate, or business license, for 2013. In order to conduct business within the City of Milledgeville, renewals had to be paid by March 22.

“There is no need for a business license right now since we are not in business,” Won said. “As soon as we are ready to start operating again, that’s when we will renew the license.”

Customers wishing to retrieve their items not picked up by Swan’s closing date can contact Won, but must pay for the laundering. Garments will also be available at the new location once the business reopens.

“We really appreciate all of the kind calls that [everyone] has given us,” Won said.

To pick up garments left at Swan’s, call 478-696-2110.
