MILLEDGEVILLE —

Community events are slated this month to raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence on communities.

Fundraisers will be held this weekend to benefit The Circle of Love Center’s mission of supporting those affected by the issue. Later this month, new graduates of Baldwin County’s In Our Best Interest Program will also be recognized as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Circle of Love Center, located in Greene County, is a non-profit agency that provides support services to victims and their children through residential and non-residential services in five counties: Greene, Morgan, Putnam, Baldwin and Hancock.

Circle of Love will host three benefits that will take place Saturday — a motorcycle benefit ride, a flea market and a community bake sale. All proceeds will go to the Circle of Love Domestic Violence Shelter. The motorcycle benefit ride will begin at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Bone Island Grill located at 920 Greensboro Road. The flea market and bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. at the Harmony Community Center.

Also in observance this month, Baldwin County’s Victim's Advocate Johnnie Wilson will award certificates to 20 graduates of the In Our Best Interest Domestic Violence program Oct. 22. The program, a domestic violence support class, has graduated more than 500 women, teaching them the signs of abuse and empowering them to take control of their own lives and circumstances by getting help and getting out of abusive relationships.

Meetings are held every Thursday of each month along with free childcare when attending classes.
