Georgia Cancer Support hosting Tea Party for Hope

MILLEDGEVILLE — Two years ago Georgia Cancer Support (GCS) started an outreach ministry for cancer patients going through treatment.

The mission evolved as volunteers, educators and outreach workers joined to make a difference for the affected individuals and their families through financial support.

GCS depends on the generosity of financial donations and volunteer time.

An upcoming Saturday, May 3 Tea Party for Hope at Standing Rock Farm will help the cause.

The non-profit organization founder, Robbie White, said vendors could set up a table and sell items starting at 3 p.m. before the tea party begins at 4 p.m.

Author Sophia Peavy is the guest speaker.

A live auction goes on during the tea party. Tickets are $30.

“The people of Milledgeville are blessing us giving wonderful gifts to auction off,” White said. “That’s how we make our money.”

Tax-deductible donations are still needed. White said anything from cakes to gift certificates is wonderful for the tea party fundraiser.

Magnolia State Park signed on as the party’s corporate sponsor.

“This is our only fundraiser until this fall, so we really want to raise as much money as we can to help lots of people,” White said.

One hundred percent of funds go to patients.

At press time Thursday, 48 tea party tickets remained.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their finest decorated hat to win a prize.

GCS spends money on a variety of needs ranging from gas, food and other supports during cancer treatments. White knows the depths of cancer through personal experience.

“While they are going through that, we are there to help meet physical and spiritual needs,” White said. “We are really prayer partners. That’s what we want to get across. Our No. 1 goal is to share Jesus.”

The cancer support organization’s leader said no other middle Georgia city volunteers and gives like Milledgeville.

Cheryl Crumbley with Magnolia Bank urges people to purchase bake sale goods Friday, April 18 at the bank’s Milledgeville and Gray locations. Those goods and $1 cancer ribbon proceeds go directly to GCS.

“Without them, I don’t know what we would do,” White said. “That bank is a blessing. They support us all the time.”

Crumbley and city president Bill Jones said Magnolia employees and customers alike have benefited from the cancer support outreach. Cancer affected families will donate baked items for next week’s sale also.

Even if an individual doesn’t qualify for GCS aid, Crumbley said White knows all the ends and outs of the community through church and business relationships to find was to help people such as food and gas cards.

Standing Rock Farm is located at 2653 Highway 49 in Haddock.
