MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Monday night at the Super 8 Motel on North Columbia Street.
According to an Milledgeville Police Department incident report, an officer arrived on scene around 10:15 p.m. and was advised by police dispatch that the victim was located in Room 127 of the Super 8 Motel.
Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the victim, who stated that while he was standing outside his room, a black male wearing dark clothing approached him and pointed a gun in his face and demanded his wallet. He then stated that he complied and handed the assailant his wallet.
The victim stated in the police report that once he handed over his wallet, the assailant struck him on the left side of his head with the gun, knocking him to the ground.
The assailant then ran from the scene, heading south, according to the police report statements.
EMS was also contacted to check the victim for injuries. According to the incident report, he had what appeared to be swelling to the left side of his head. EMS provided medical assessment and the victim declined to be transported at the time.
Police spoke with other persons at the motel, and while doing so they made contact with a man who said that he was sitting outside his room smoking when he observed a silver or gray vehicle back into a parking space on the south side of the motel. He also stated that a black male subject exited the vehicle and walked around the end of the motel toward the north side of the building. After a few minutes, he observed the same man running back around the building, entering the same vehicle, then leaving the scene in a hurry.
Last week, MPD officers made an arrest in a burglary case that happened at another local motel.
Suspect Kenneth Williams, 22, was taken into custody and charged with burglary, giving false name and obstruction of an officer. Williams also had an outstanding probation warrant.
Williams was identified as the alleged perpetrator of the theft of more than $6,000 from a room at the Econo Lodge motel. The burglary happened Aug. 15.
Police contend that Williams took the master key while the other employees were cleaning, entered the room and stole the money, according to the report.
Once Williams was processed at the police department, he was transported to the Baldwin County Jail. A detention officer removed the inside sole of William's shoe and found more than $1,500, which went to MPD detectives for evidence, police said.
