MILLEDGEVILLE — Construction of the Milledgeville Marketplace Farmers’ Market Pavilion has begun.

The pavilion will serve as the new home for the farmer’s market and a space for gatherings and events for the community.

Milledgeville City Council recently approved a contract with Dyer Construction. The pavilion will be a 40 feet by 60 feet timber frame building, including a handicap-accessible bathroom, lighting, power outlets and fans.

Milledgeville Main Street received a $42,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to construct the pavilion.

"We are excited about the opportunity that this structure will bring. There are many other options that the city and Main Street are looking into to make the pavilion a hub of activity which will add to what downtown already offers residents and visitors," said Main Street Director Carlee Schulte.

The current market season runs through the end of this month but has moved to the parking lot next to the pavilion area.

The market is open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.
