MILLEDGEVILLE — Local fifth graders from the Baldwin County public school system and John Milledge Academy, along with Georgia Military College Prep School eighth graders, are visiting the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House and Georgia’s Old Capital Museum this week to tie in their classroom studies about the Civil War.

Blandy Hills Elementary School students stopped by Thursday morning to learn from local volunteers what life would have been like for families and soldiers during 1863, including what soldiers packed in their knapsacks, and how women maintained their gardens for herbs and medicine.

Williams Funeral Home also loaned a hearse from the 1860s era to have on display at the Sanford House.
