Eggs & Issues kickoff Wednesday

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber Eggs & Issues Fall 2013 series kickoff is Wednesday. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. at Crockett’s Cafeteria.

The local state property initiative centered on Central State Hospital’s redevelopment efforts headlines.

Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority (CSHLRA) Executive Director Mike Couch will discuss the current legislative task force working to create an adequate mechanism for repurposing Central State Hospital’s 200 vacant buildings and 2,000-hospital campus acres.

Establishing easier property conveyance procedures will give the CSH redevelopment team the ability to negotiate and act on a potential tenant. Currently, it takes legislation passed during a three-month session at the beginning of each year to transfer property.

The dream scenario allows the CSHLRA to deal directly with the State Properties Commission (SPC), which will eliminate going back through the legislative process. The Central State legislative body would broker with the SPC for all 2,000 acres.

Cheryl Crumbley, commercial lender at Magnolia State Bank and Chamber member volunteer, said the Chamber used feedback surveys from last year’s gatherings to find out what the community members want to see.

“The first three issues this fall are based on responses the Chamber received,” Crumbley said.

These heavily attended Chamber events are a way for citizens and concerned business folks to hear firsthand what’s going on locally.

This fall’s series includes video to be included on the Chamber website.

“That’s another way we can get the things going on out to the community,” Crumbley said.

Wednesday’s presentation runs from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The Chamber wants to make the best use of that hour for busy businesses and officials.

Keeping the programming fresh is important. Crumbley said the Chamber invites positive or negative feedback to make the events better for all involved.

“We are looking forward to hearing from everyone about topics of conversation they would like to discuss during this forum,” Crumbley said.
