Rotary observes Peace Day

MILLEDGEVILLE —  

Milledgeville Rotary Club celebrated Peace Day Thursday with a brief ceremony outside the Baldwin County Courthouse.

Guest speaker for the ceremony was Lt. Col. Edward Shelor (Ret.). Shelor relayed to those in attendance the importance of valuing peace as a personal attribute in to uphold in the community.

The program featured music by the Georgia Military College Prep School band and the presentation of colors by the Baldwin High School NJROTC.

Baldwin County became the first Rotary Peace Community in the nation in September 1995. The following year, the group dedicated the large peace monument that stands in front of the Baldwin County Courthouse at the corner of Wilkinson and Hancock streets.
