Second BOOST grants going out

MILLEDGEVILLE — The second round of BOOSTING small business in Milledgeville is here.

BOOSTERS have been casting their votes, and the results will be tallied for the publishers' clearinghouse style announcement on Monday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m.

Members will gather at the Main Street office to then walk to the winning businesses to present them with a big check.

For Round 2 of the BOOST program, 13 applications were received with requests for repairs, renovations, awnings, signs as well as business equipment.

BOOST provides grant money to downtown small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Business owners are only eligible for the grant once per year. The money must go toward specific items such as a new sign, piece of equipment or marketing need.

The Milledgeville Downtown Development Authority's BOOST initiative previously handed out its first grants in August to Amici Italian Café, Hair Bar and Blossoms Florist. Each received $1,000 from the small business incentive program.

The program now has over 40 members that have pledged to donate $100 twice a year, and some even more. Local businesses and community members are realizing the impact that a grant program like BOOST can make for our downtown businesses and entrepreneurs.

The small monetary donation from many creates the ability to provide larger grants to these business owners. This infusion of capital into our local community is a new creative way to help ourselves.

“The fact that we have brought in over 10 more BOOSTERS and almost doubled the applications received from our first round of grants is very telling. This is something that people can really get on board with and actually see the difference they are making in our community. It's a new and different kind of economic development that is gaining popularity nationwide, and I'm proud that Milledgeville is ahead of the curve,” Main Street Director Carlee Schulte said.

Anyone who is interested in joining this venture or has questions about the group can contact the Downtown Development Authority/Milledgeville Main Street at 478-414-4014. Make sure to 'like' the new BOOST Milledgeville Facebook page.
