MILLEDGEVILLE — The Area I Department of Georgia American Legion held its 42nd annual High School Oratorical Contest Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Laurens County Post 17 in Dublin.
Contestants were allowed to speak on their prepared oration for eight to 10 minutes on The United States Constitution. In addition, they were given three to five minutes to speak on one of four assigned topics.
Analese Bridges, daughter of Barbara Bundrage of Gray, won first place. Bridges is a junior at GMC Prep and was sponsored by Warren-Hawkins Post 523 American Legion in Milledgeville of the sixth district. Bridges was presented The Gold Oratorical Medal, a certificate of appreciation and a check for $350.
Andrew Adams, son of Richard and Elizabeth Adams of Savannah, won second place. He is a senior at St. Andrews High School of Savannah.
As the Area I first place winner, Bridges will advance to the Department of Georgia competition, which will be held at board of education building in Perry on March 1 at 1 p.m., in competition with the other three areas of Georgia.
The Department of Georgia winner competes in the National competition in Indianapolis, Ind. in April.
