Braziel stepping down next year

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Board of Education accepted the resignation of School Superintendent Geneva Braziel Tuesday evening effective June 30, 2014. School board members expressed their gratitude to Braziel for her commitment, dedication and passion to the school system and its students. Braziel has served two terms as superintendent for the school district. Her current three-year contract ends Nov. 1, 2014.

“I need to get more balance in my life for personal and professional reasons. Right now this consumes about 90 percent of my time, and over the last six years it has increased,” Braziel said. “At this point, I don’t know what the next phase of my career will be, but I’m excited about the opportunities.”

The school board has already contacted the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) to receive insight regarding the process of hiring a new superintendent.

“GSBA will tell us what services they can offer and how the process will work for hiring a new superintendent,” Jackson said. “They should be here by the first of the year, most likely the January board meeting. Our goal is to have a new superintendent by the time Mrs. Braziel’s resignation is effective.”
