Vaughn Chapel holding open city candidate forum

MILLEDGEVILLE — Vaughn Chapel Missionary Baptist Church’s Political Action Committee will host an open City of Milledgeville candidate forum at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The public is invited to come out, ask questions and share concerns with the candidates for mayor and City Council.

According to one of the event organizers, Angelia Lawson, all the candidates for the Nov. 5 municipal election are expected to attend.

Guests for the evening are expected to include incumbent Mayor Richard Bentley, mayoral challenger John Grant Jr., Dr. Collinda Lee (District 1), Jeanette Walden (District 2), Denese Shinholster (District 3), challenger Phillip Smith (District 3), Walter Reynolds (District 4), Boo Mullins (District 5), challenger Daniel McDonald (District 5), challenger Pam Beer (District 5), Steve Chambers (District 6) and challenger Andrew Strickland (District 6).

On behalf of the one-year-old PAC, Lawson wants citizens to come out and get involved before the election.

“Find out what's going on in the community and get to know your candidates to know who you are voting for and what they stand for,” Lawson said.

Guests will find out where all the future city leaders want to take the community, she said.

“We are moving, and everybody needs to be where they can share that to found out where the Council members want to take us,” she said.

The PAC's mission is bringing the community together, she said.

“The committee wants to let the community put a face to the name,” Lawson said. “If you have a complaint, now is the time to share it.”

Vaughn Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is located at 1980 N. Jefferson St.
