Georgia College hosts International Week

MILLEDGEVILLE — Just more than three years ago, Georgia College junior Nicole Moyo was speaking with a representative from the U.S. Embassy in her native country of Zimbabwe.

The topic of conversation was universities in the U.S. where she could further her education.

“I knew I wanted a school that was located away from the major cities and had a smaller student population,” said Moyo. “I was looking for somewhere that I could build relationships and have an intense learning experience all while knowing the students and professors in my classes on a personal level.”

She found the perfect fit in Georgia College, and since she arrived in Milledgeville, she has been active on campus and in the community.

“It has been such an enriching experience,” said the management major. “Georgia College has a great number of international students. I’ve become friends with students from around the world through my involvement in the International Club.”

That special bond created between students from across the globe will be celebrated on campus as part of International Week at Georgia College.

Events take place throughout the week to bring new knowledge and awareness about other cultures.

“The International Club will sponsor an event which highlights all of our students and their home countries,” said Moyo, who is the president of the International Club. “We are proud to provide an experiential learning opportunity for our students on campus and other people from the community through interacting with our club members.”

The International Club is an organization that assists students with learning about and appreciating other cultures. The club is an avenue for American students and International students at the College to meet and get acquainted with each other.

Other activities during International Week include:

Monday, Oct. 21

• Mutual Inspirations: A Celebration of Czech Culture – Co-Sponsored by the Department of Theatre. All Events in the Campus Black Box Theatre.
