Drivers escape weekend wreck

MILLEDGEVILLE — A three-car crash occurred last Saturday near the entrance of Jackson's on Sinclair. No one was seriously injured.

Shortly after 9 p.m. that evening, a white Honda Civic traveling northbound on US 441 collided with a Toyota RAV4 turning left into Jackson's.

“The Civic came across the turning lane and hit the RAV4 at an angle,” Georgia State Trooper First Class Michael Screws said. “When he hit the car in the turning lane, it whipped him into the path of the other car (Toyota 4Runner) going south.”

According to Screws, the 4Runner nailed the back driver's side door of the Civic, slinging the compact car back into the turning lane. The 4Runner ended up on the right side of the road near Admiralty Way, while the RAV4 spun backwards facing northbound.

“It's kind of a crazy wreck. We really don't have a reason why the driver crossed,” Screws said. “It doesn't look like he was avoiding anybody.”

The Civic driver was ticketed for failure to maintain lane and no seat belt. He went to the hospital with some broken bones and bruises.

All drivers were lucky nothing more serious occurred.

“It was a terrible wreck. If you were standing out there, you probably would have thought it was a fatality on that boy in the Civic,” the trooper said.
