Flannery O’Connor Memorial Lecture features Father Patrick Samway

MILLEDGEVILLE — Father Patrick Samway, S. J. will serve as the 2013 Flannery O’Connor Memorial guest lecturer.

Samway, Professor Emeritus of English at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, recently finished a book on Flannery O’Connor and her editor, Robert Giroux.

His lecture will be the keynote event in Milledgeville for Trailfest 2013 – the nation’s only tri-state literacy festival. It includes events in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Samway will present his lecture “’I am back where I belong’: Flannery O’Connor to Her Editor, Robert Giroux” Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Pat Peterson Museum Education Room of the Georgia College Library.

The event sponsored by the Arts Unlimited Committee at Georgia College and the Flannery O’Conner Review is open to the public and free to attend.

Samway received his Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He has authored several books in including Walker Percy: A Life (1997), which was chosen by The New York Times as one of the notable books of 1997. He has also edited and co-edited many works.
