Usery presents lecture at Old Capital Museum

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia’s Old Capital Museum will continue its “Evenings with History” lecture series Tuesday with a presentation from William “Bill” Usery.

Usery will present at 7 p.m. in the Legislative Chamber of the Old Capitol.

Usery, a native of Hardwick, rose in his career from a cadet at Georgia Military College (1938-1941) to service in Washington, D.C., under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford to a private consultant in labor relations for clients around the world.

Speaking from the chair he used in cabinet meetings while serving as Secretary of Labor under Pres. Ford, Usery will provide personal anecdotes from his years with the Nixon and Ford administrations as well as stories of his international labor negotiations, and finally his decision to return home to serve the people of Milledgeville in retirement.

Following Usery’s talk, GOCM Society volunteers will host a reception, and Mr. Usery will visit with members of the audience.

The "Evenings with History" lecture series is sponsored annually by Georgia’s Old Capital Museum and is held in the historic Legislative Chambers of the Old Statehouse on the Georgia Military College campus.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The lecture series is presented in the Legislative Chamber of the Old Capitol Building on the Georgia Military College campus. For more information call (478) 453-1803.
