Local talent wanted for First Friday

MILLEDGEVILLE —

Downtown Milledgeville’s May 3 First Friday will “Showcase Milledgeville” for the second year and just like the year before the committee is in search of local talent.

The First Friday committee isn’t just looking for musicians. Anyone with a special talent can enter.

Last year a mime and unicyclist performed with several bands.

“Any kind of act is more than welcome to come and perform whether it is theater, juggling, magic or music,” Milledgeville Main Street director Carlee Schulte said.

May’s First Friday is a collaborative volunteer effort.

“Everyone’s participation is for the purpose of creating a fun community event,” Schulte said. “No one will be paid for their time, but … this is an opportunity to be a part of an exciting evening in downtown Milledgeville.”

To be considered, please email a name and contact information along with a description of the act’s work or talent before April 19 to dthornton@milledgevillega.us. Participation is subject to committee review and availability of space.

Another exciting facet to the May 3 festivities is a diamond drawing at J.C. Grant Company. The local jeweler donated a princess cut and one round 1-carat stone for the lucky winner to choose from.

“We didn’t want to limit our potential winner to one particular shape,” Grant’s co-owner Justin Jones said.

Tickets are $20 and entrants can buy as many as they like. All of the proceeds go toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Ninety cents of every dollar heads to foundation research.

Jones’ 5-year-old son Blake was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 6 weeks old. The store decided to switch things up for fundraising this year.

“We’ve been trying to raise money ever since,” Jones said. “This year we thought we’d do something different.”

Ticket sales have been pretty strong so far.
