MILLEDGEVILLE —

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the last in a five-part series highlighting this year’s finalists for Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year. The winner will be announced at the Blue Sapphire Gala annual dinner and awards presentation on Saturday, June 1 at the Milledgeville Country Club.

At Merritt Professional Carpet Cleaning and Restoration, the mission isn’t at all complex.

“Our mission is a simple one. We aim to provide you with the most outstanding service experience available,” said Stephen Merritt, owner of Merritt Professional Carpet Cleaning and Restoration located on Irwinton Road.

The success of Merritt Professional Carpet Cleaning and Restoration is a combination of an impeccable reputation, knowledgeable experience and its 100 percent guarantee. That combination, along with hard work and determination, landed the business in the running for the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year. Merritt is among this year’s five finalists for the honor.

“I feel the nomination is a great honor and it shows how much confidence individuals have in your company,” Merritt said.

Merritt Professional Carpet Cleaning and Restoration is a professional, full-service carpet, floor, and fabric care company serving Milledgeville, Macon, Gray, Eatonton, Lake Sinclair, Lake Oconee, Sandersville, Sparta and the Wilkinson County area. Merritt offers a wide range of carpet cleaning and restoration services. Its 24-hour emergency services include emergency flood and water removal, water damage restoration, fire and smoke damage restoration as well as mold remediation. The business also offers flooring and upholstery services such as premium carpet cleaning, area rug cleaning, carpet fiber protection, tile and grout cleaning and sealing, as well as upholstery cleaning and fabric protection.

The company’s reputation and experience speaks for itself. It is committed to first class customer service and all customers are treated with the utmost respect, according to Merritt.

“What sets us apart from other businesses is that we don't see our work as just another job,” said Merritt. “We take pride in our reputation and strive to uphold it by providing dependable and professional service at all times.”

Stephen Merritt founded Merritt Professional Carpet Cleaning and Restoration in 1995. In 1996, Merritt bought a local carpet cleaning company and added it to the client base. After marrying his wife, Natalie, in the same year, she became a part of the business and today the entire family plays a role in the maintenance and care of the company.

“We realized early on that most carpet cleaning companies were not providing good service and did not seem to know about cleaning, either,” said Merritt. “We knew that if we were able to provide a professional cleaning service to the residents of Milledgeville they would appreciate it and word of mouth would spread.”

In the beginning, Merritt realized the value of being knowledgeable about the equipment and services they were providing. Employees immersed themselves in attending certification classes, continuing education classes, studying cleaning magazines, learning manuals, and networking with other professionals.

“As a result, we began to be the number one company to call to solve many of the difficult cleaning and restoration concerns for homeowners, realtors, carpet retailers, property managers, insurance agents, and insurance adjusters,” Merritt said.

Over the years Merritt has continued to build his company through excellent customer service, education and quality work.

“We will always continue to raise the bar for professional and honest service.”
