Brother of shooting suspect in custody

A person of interest in the Saturday, March 23 shooting at The Grove Apartments turned himself in to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday evening.

The alleged shooter, Alfonso Leonardo Dixon, is still at-large.

Capt. Brad King of the BCSO said the Fugitive Squad would be on Dixon’s trail as of Wednesday morning.

Dixon is sought for aggravated assault in Baldwin and an outstanding Coweta County felony warrant for theft.

Dixon’s brother, now in county jail, 19-year-old Demarcus Reshon Dixon, is believed to be the driver of the red Ford 500 vehicle involved in the case that was spotted Sunday by a county cruiser traveling on Highway 49.

The car fled the officer after an attempted traffic stop. The short chase ended a few blocks later on Greene Street, after the driver struck a light pole and a fire hydrant before crashing into an adjacent Georgia College Student Housing complex.

After the crash, the suspect ran toward the Centennial Center evading capture. The BCSO said evidence suggests Demarcus was the only one in the vehicle.

He has a felony false statement charge together with traffic and obstruction charges for running from the Sunday accident.

According to Lt. Bobby Langford, Demarcus took the weekend gun shot victim to Oconee Regional Medical Center.

The victim had a gun shot wound to his right leg. Surgery removed the .380 caliber bullet stuck in his calf, and he was treated and released.

During the course of the investigation, Langford heard multiple bogus stories from involved parties concerning where the shooting took place.

During a search of the apartment, authorities located what appeared to be the bullets the suspect using during the shooting, according to Langford. As of Monday, authorities hadn’t located the gun.

Anyone with information regarding the Dixon’s whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (478) 445-5102 or the tip line at (478) 445-4891.
