Area orchestra presents ‘Evening of Classics’

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra will present its spring concert, an “Evening of Classics” at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The orchestra is led by new music director and conductor, David Johnson.

“We've been rehearsing since January, and I'm excited to share the orchestra's wonderful talent with the public,” said Johnson.

ORSO was formed nearly two years ago and is a nonprofit regional symphony orchestra. ORSO's debut performance, held last October, “Classical Favorites,” featured music from Mozart, Bach and Beethoven.

This weekend’s performance will include classical pieces from Mozart and Beethoven as well.

“The orchestra will perform some beautiful classics such as a Mozart overture, Beethoven's First Symphony, and the Mozart Oboe Concerto,” said Johnson.

The oboe will be played by Adrian Gnam. Besides being a skilled oboist, he is also known in the music world as a conductor, an arranger and a teacher.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door and parking is available.

“We are looking forward to sharing this classic music with everyone in Milledgeville on St. Patrick's Day.” Johnson said.

For more information call David Johnson at (478) 445-7321 or e-mail david.johnson@gcsu.edu. More information is also available on the ORSO website at www.oconeeregionalsymphonyorchestra.org.
