CSHLRA hosts Arts at the Grove Festival

MILLEDGEVILLE — Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority (CSHLRA) is hosting its first Arts at the Grove Festival next week to bring awareness to the CSH campus during the family, fun community event.

“We’re definitely very excited to put on an event like this,” said Lauren Abis, communications and research analyst for the CSHLRA. “We feel like we’re carrying on the tradition that Central State Hospital had before, serving as the central location for their festivities in the past.”

CSHLRA has partnered with Sounds of the South, a local music festival, to put on the community event slated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Pecan Grove.

Live entertainment will be provided by Sounds of the South and the Fall Line Ramblers. Activities will be available for all ages, including face painting, bounce houses, and arts and crafts vendors. Animal Rescue Foundation will also offer pet adoptions during the festival.

“Sounds of the South will bring a taste of their music and help promote their event, which is next week. Buffington’s, Gringos and Dough Boys will also sell their food on site,” Abis said. “We want Arts at the Grove to be a fun, family-focused community event that will bring new life to the CSH campus.”

Formed in 2009, CSHLRA is an integral part of the effort to repurpose, revitalize and redevelop the historic CSH campus. The non-profit organization is charged with generating economic strategies for the redevelopment of the campus, identifying new business prospects and managing the development of the CSH property with an eye toward creating new jobs, providing training and other educational opportunities for the betterment of the community.

“We’re really focused on bringing attention to the CSHLRA and bringing the community out to the Grove,” Abis said.

Also during the community event, the Bicycling Club of Milledgeville and the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual April Fools Ride at the CSH campus. The ride kicks off at 9 a.m. with on-site registration starting at 8 a.m. A 5-mile family fun ride around the CSH campus is also available for riders of all ages and skill levels at no cost, which starts at 9:45 a.m.

“By having an assortment of activities and partnering with other community organizations, Arts at the Grove has the potential to draw much needed attention and community support to the CSHLRA’s important mission,” Abis said. “We’re very excited about this great event and we hope you will join us in the fun.”
