Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra auditions upcoming

MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville is home to its very own symphony orchestra.

The Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra (ORSO) is searching near and far for talented musicians to add to the group. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The audition site is Porter Hall on the Georgia College Campus. Porter is on N. Wilkinson Street between E. McIntosh and E. Montgomery streets.

ORSO Music Director and Conductor David Johnson will supervise the auditions.

Every musician in the group must go through this process.

The orchestra needs violin, viola, cello, double bass, woodwinds, brass and percussion instrumentalists. At this time, the ORSO isn't auditioning flute performers.

This is the only community orchestra entertaining the Middle Georgia area, performing two free concerts a year. Previous concerts have included music by Bach, Beethoven, Bizet, Mozart and Rossini.

The ORSO is a non-profit that rehearses Tuesday evenings in Milledgeville.

The group boasts musicians from all occupations including business professionals, hobbyists, educators, retirees and college students. All the musicians of various ages, backgrounds and talent levels enjoy performing classical music.

Those who played an instrument in high school or college band, in a local church, can read sheet music and own an instrument (except large percussion), are encouraged to come out to audition.

ORSO would love to have new members join this entertaining music ensemble promoting live music in the area. All that's needed is time, talent and passion.

To schedule an audition, email Johnson at david.johnson@gcsu.edu. For more information visit oconeeregionalsymphonyorchestra.org or on the ORSO Facebook page.

Any further audition questions should come to orso.info@gmail.com or call 478-445-7321.
