Community strategic plan needs public input

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority are urging the community to participate in a brief online survey in an effort to create a new community vision and strategic plan.

“The community is embarking on a strategic planning process and one of the things that’s included is data gathering,” said Johnny Grant, steering committee chair of the community strategic plan. “Some of the data can be gathered from traditional sources ... but we also need to get a feel from community members themselves on what they think is important, what needs to be focused on, and what their vision might be for the future of our community.”

The local Chamber and Development Authority have a partnership with other key stakeholders, including local governing bodies, colleges and the hospital, to develop the new strategic plan for the community.

“The goal is to develop a shared vision for our community with identifiable action items that we can work toward implementing that will lead to more jobs in the community,” said April Bragg, CEO of the local Chamber. “Community input through the online survey is a critical component necessary to provide the foundation of the plan and benchmarks for planning the future.”

The online survey, which launched Monday morning, can be found on the Chamber’s website at Survey respondents also have a chance to enter to win one of five $50 gift certificates to local Chamber businesses.

“We’re working on getting a print-friendly version of the survey for those who may not have access to the Internet,” Grant said. “You are going to help make Milledgeville-Baldwin County stronger by taking the survey. We will use your input, suggestions and evaluations to build on the strengths this community has.”

The survey will be available for the public’s input over the next three weeks.

“We will still continue to have conversations, have focus groups and community meetings after the survey. In February, we will have our next task force meeting,” Grant said. “We will share the information from this survey, as well as other information gathered, with the task force.”

For more information about the strategic plan or the survey call the Chamber at 478-453-9311.

“This is an exciting time for Milledgeville; we have a lot of opportunities ahead of us,” Grant said. “We’re excited about the possibilities of the entire community to come together to live, work and play.”
