From staff reports
MILLEDGEVILLE — The monthly Milledgeville Area Patriots tea party meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church.
Guest speaker Donna Sheldon will launch her U.S. House of Representatives Georgia 10th Congressional District campaign at the 2014 kickoff gathering.
Sheldon has been a small business owner for 12 years and is proud to serve the people of the 104th district in the Georgia House of Representatives. The district encompasses Dacula and North East Gwinnett.
In 2009, her Republican colleagues elected her as Chair of the House Majority Caucus. She also serves as vice chairman of the House Transportation Committee.
Sheldon is a member of the Appropriations subcommittee on Health, as well as the Economic Development and Tourism, and Ethics committees. She was also appointed to the Transportation Governance Study Commission in 2010.
Governor Perdue sought Sheldon's leadership by appointing her to his Water Contingency Task Force. The recommendations of this task force led to the passage of the Georgia Water Stewardship Act of 2010.
Sheldon has a proven record of fighting for strong, conservative values. She has lead the fight to protect the unborn in Georgia, to expand gun rights and concealed carry access, to implement the Government Accountability Act that requires the state legislature to review each agency to determine if the agency should be eliminated due to its services being duplicative or unnecessary.
Sheldon also fought to implement Zero Based budgeting, which requires each agency to justify and receive approval for every dollar to be appropriated to it. Historically, the agency was only required to detail the increases requested to its budget from one year to the next.
Baldwin County Board of Education Chair, John Jackson, will address the Patriots at the January meeting as well.
Jackson will discuss plans for filling the Baldwin County School Superintendent's vacancy, give an update of the school board's strategic plan and explain the new policy for public input.
The Milledgeville Patriots would like to invite the entire Baldwin County community to come and hear both of these speakers.
