Initial unemployment claims for Baldwin County decreased last month, mirroring the decrease in claims statewide.
The number of new layoffs, represented by initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits, decreased to 124, down by 45, or 26.6 percent, from October. Claims declined in several sectors, including manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and administrative and support services. There were 153 claims in November 2012, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.1 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 10 percent.
Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November was 7.7 percent, down from 8.1 percent in October. The rate was 8.7 percent in November a year ago.
Initial unemployment claims statewide are down 15.8 percent from October and have decreased 28.7 percent overall from 2012, the Georgia Department of Labor reported.
