MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville Allied Arts encourages photographers of all skill levels to enter the sixth annual Big Click photography competition and exhibition for a chance to win prizes and display their unique work for art enthusiasts and curious minds to enjoy.

“The Big Click grew out of the Oconee Artists Exhibition that we did for 30 years,” Allied Arts Executive Director Randy Cannon said. “There were so many people entering photographs, and we felt like there needed to be a show strictly for photography.”

The Big Click is open to adults 18 and older from the central Georgia area. Photographers can submit two entries, with identification labels attached to the back of each entry, and deliver them to the Marlor House by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with a registration fee of $15.

“I stress to people that presentation of the work is so important, including the size and format,” Cannon said.

As part of the Holiday Open House reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, the Marlor House will open its doors to passersby to view the collection of one-of-a-kind images, which can include film, digital and digitally-enhanced photographs.

“The Marlor House will be decorated for the holiday season with native greenery,” Cannon said. “The Milledgeville Civic Woman’s Club will be doing a holiday cookie buffet. It will be a time to enjoy the house, see the exhibit and then go see the Milledgeville Christmas parade.”

The photographs will be judged by David Veal, an award-winning photographer with more than three decades of experience. Cash awards will be given, including $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place during the reception.

“Everyone will get a ballot and vote for their favorite photograph. The People’s Choice Award and other winners will be announced at the reception,” Cannon said.

All works will be on display through Friday, Dec. 28 at the Marlor House, located at 201 N. Wayne St. The Big Click is sponsored by Allied Arts with additional support from the Georgia Council for the Arts through appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly.

“The Big Click has grown every year. We’re finding new artists and we’ve gotten some really good photographers who range from very amateur to very professional. Sometimes we invite photographers back to have a one person show,” Cannon said. “It’s a fun show. People are interested in what other people are doing, so it’s a good time to exchange ideas and techniques with people interested in the same thing.”
