Milledgeville Mall fills vacancies with local history

MILLEDGEVILLE — Vacant storefronts in the Milledgeville Mall are being covered up with sheetrock this week before large historical photographs depicting Milledgeville-Baldwin County are installed later this month.

“We are busy making aesthetic improvements to the mall. We are working on removing the tarps and grates that cover vacant bays and replacing them with newly-painted, temporary walls that will be covered with historical photographs to represent Milledgeville’s great history,” said Coles Hull, marketing manager for Hull Storey Gibson, the Augusta-based management company of the local mall, Starbucks, Petsense and LongHorn parcels. “These upgrades will help improve the shopping experience for our customers, and we are scheduled to debut the new look before the holiday shopping season begins.”

While Hull Storey Gibson is in the midst of filling the current vacancies, the large, framed photographs, including captions, will be placed in front of the former B&E Wireless store and the old Premiere Nails salon, as well as Waldenbooks, Sports Emporium, No. 1 Men’s Fit, Hallmark and the old recruiting center.

“Georgia’s Old Capital Museum has been instrumental in educating us on Milledgeville’s unique history and helping us find wonderful photographs and connect with local historians and organizations,” Hull said. “We are also excited that Puebla’s Mexican Restaurant will be joining us at the mall.”

Newly hired on-site Milledgeville Mall Manager, George Mayor, has been managing all facilities and day-to-day operations at the local mall since July.

“I communicate with tenants and serve as a liaison between the community and the mall,” said Mayor, the mall’s operations and maintenance manager. “I handle everything from replacing the lights to helping with events we have here at the mall; I really do a little bit of everything.”

Mayor is a Florida native and retired U.S. Naval officer, previously serving as the assistant director of facilities at Georgia Military College for nearly a decade and electrical and mechanical superintendent at Georgia College.
