Young leaders network, connect

MILLEDGEVILLE — Around 75 high school students modeling leadership skills from Baldwin High School, Georgia Military College Prep School and John Milledge Academy networked and connected with area nonprofit organizations during the sixth annual Youth Leaders America (YLA) conference Wednesday.

Held at Georgia College’s Magnolia Ballroom, students in grades 9 through 12 were welcomed by Mayor Richard Bentley before breaking up into group sessions.

Representatives from HorseDreams Youth Ranch, Salvation Army, Savannah Court, Communities In Schools of Milledgeville-Baldwin County (CISMBC), Georgia College’s Department of Outdoor Education and Georgia College Human Resources spoke to students about volunteer opportunities, time management and team building.

This year’s collaborative effort was amongst Oconee Prevention Resource Council, Georgia College GIVE Center and CISMBC.

YLA is a non-profit organization that has been fostering leadership and networking among high school students since 2003, connecting students with civic, business and community leaders.
