Shooting at school bus results in indictment

MILLEDGEVILLE — An 18-year-old allegedly aimed a pellet gun at a school bus Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Shots shattered a window near the driver’s head, according to the Milledgeville Police Department.

Austin Dean Trease and a 16-year-old male were both arrested and charged last month.

Trease was indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury Monday for single counts of aggravated assault, interference with government property and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.

Maj. Reginald Hill with MPD said investigators are looking forward to going to trial to get some justice in the case.

The police take this case just like more high-powered reports of shots fired.

“That was a pretty serious incident. We just hope that it’s followed through,” Hill said.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Forrest Hill Drive in reference to shots being fired at a school bus at 3:28 p.m. that day.

Officers arrived moments later to find the driver visibly shaken, but not injured. The driver stated that as she traveled past a residence she heard the window shatter.

MPD could visibly see some sort of small projectile had caused the damage to the windows. The report said a couple of small pellets were found in the roadway behind the bus.

The driver didn’t know where the pellets were fired from, nor could she give a description of the suspects.

Neighborhood witnesses gave police valuable information about the incident. It was reported that the suspects had been walking up and down the road, allegedly shooting at houses in the area.

According to the police report, the suspects fired at the bus before running inside the residence located at 1454 Forrest Hill Road.

Officers surrounded the residence and eventually detained a female and the two males.

The juvenile involved was also charged with aggravated assault and criminal interference with government property.
