Saturday concert for the troops

MILLEDGEVILLE — A weekend concert at Buffington's in downtown Milledgeville will showcase a notable singer and pay homage to America’s troops.

The Charity Benevolent Fund hosts artist Angela Reign. The show starts at 10 p.m. Saturday.

The benefit concert will raise funds for military families to help with food, rent, utilities and medical bills.

Larry Manuel started the charity two years ago.

“We help people to prevent foreclosure and provide basic health and wellness needs and to also end poverty,” he said.

The Charity Benevolent Fund has done two school drives, two health fairs and two coat drives to date.

Manuel has four brothers in the United States Marines and his father served in the U.S. Air Force.

“I've got cousins and uncles that were in the Army also. I just want to help people,” Manuel said.

Concert-goers can expect a mixture of country and soul.

Reign is a Premier Records artist. Her debut album “Reckless Kind” picked up global distribution in March.

Her music plays regularly on multiple rock and country radio stations.

One of Reign's singles, 'I Wanna Ride the Bull,' is the focus of line dance being taught in clubs across the U.S.

She was the 2013 Georgia Music Awards Female Artist of the Year.

Tickets are available online at www.mycbfund.org or at the door Saturday night.

For more information or to make a donation, visit the Charity Benevolent Fund Facebook page, email cbf@mycbfund.org or call 478-986-4908.

The organization will host an upcoming Memorial Day 5K at the Oconee River Greenway as well.
