MILLEDGEVILLE — Deck the halls with boughs of holly and head downtown to enjoy Milledgeville Main Street’s "Elfin’ around Downtown" event on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. where Buddy the Elf and Jovie will visit Milledgeville and spread the holiday cheer for all to hear.

Bring the kids for a photo with Buddy the Elf and Jovie from the movie, Elf. Buddy and Jovie will be set up for pictures at The Baldwin. Children can bring their holiday wish list for Buddy to give to Santa. Children are also encouraged to join in the fun by making an elf hat to wear at the Oconee Regional Medical Center Elf Hat Making Station located on the southwest corner of Wayne and Hancock Streets.

Milledgeville Main Street Director Carlee Schulte is excited for the local community to enjoy the holiday theme.

“We are pleased with this month’s theme and all of the activities we will have for the kids,” Schulte said. “We hope to bring holiday cheer to everyone that comes out to enjoy the festivities.”

Lake Country Gymnastics will provide delightful entertainment as more than 20 elf gymnasts from ages six to 14 will perform on Hancock Street in front of the Old Campus Theatre. The Lake Country Gymnastics Booster Club will also have hot chocolate for sale and a portion of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society in honor of the Lake Country Gymnastics family that have been lost to or are currently battling cancer.

To celebrate the joy of the season, Cub Scout Pack 87 of Milledgeville will be singing classic Christmas carols throughout the evening.

During the First Friday event, Creative Expressions will have music therapy students and interns at Digital Bridges making shakers and jamming with consumers from the Life Enrichment Center. At 10 p.m., Buffington’s will host a benefit concert for Creative Expressions and all of the proceeds given to the Creative Expressions program at the Life Enrichment Center will allow for the purchase of specialized equipment for the center. Creative Expressions will be raffling several gift cards and music related items at the concert.

Creative Expressions member Grace Nichols emphasizes the importance of supporting the local arts programs.

“The idea behind the concert is to showcase the talents of music therapy students, professors and professionals in the community in order to raise awareness about music therapy and to raise money for our live art auction of art,” Nichols said.

Shop locally this holiday season and check out the variety of artwork and unique gifts for sale as many businesses hold sidewalk sales. Compassionate Crafts will be back again selling items to fund their trip to Haiti to provide children with shoes through the Souls4Soles program. These items will be sure to brighten every home with holiday spirit.

Sherry Peterson, an artist from Nashville, Tenn. will be visiting Milledgeville and be outside of Asian Bistro painting and selling her artwork. Graduating with a degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Charlotte, Peterson is currently pursuing her passion of painting and playing music.

“My goal is to eventually be able to travel the world, painting every cityscape and landscape in the accurate emotion in which I believe it to be seen,” Peterson said.

‘Tis the season to be jolly so watch your step, watch where you go, you may end up under mistletoe.

Main Street’s vision for downtown Milledgeville is for it to be a vibrant center of business, education and community activity where people appreciate its rich history.
