MILLEDGEVILLE —

A Gordon Highway head-on collision took the life of a local woman and the other driver remains in critical condition.

The cause of the Jan. 6 accident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT).

Last Monday morning, a southbound Crown Victoria driven by Janice Scruggs, 64, hit a BMW operated by Michael McCant, 36, near Pierce’s Grocery. The emergency call came in at 7:08 a.m.

Georgia State Patrol said Scruggs was pronounced dead on the scene.

McCant was extracted from his BMW by emergency responders and rushed to medical attention.

Sgt. MacKay Bloodworth of Milledgeville’s Post 33 said Tuesday McCant remains in critical condition at the Macon’s Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The SCRT has mapped the crash site and inspected both vehicles, according to GSP.

“They are definitely working on it and doing what they are good at,” Bloodworth said.

No formal charges, if any, will be filed until investigators complete a thorough analysis.
