Husband, wife burglary suspects indicted

MILLEDGEVILLE — A suspected burglarizing couple was indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury Tuesday.

The Milledgeville Police Department apprehended the visiting husband and wife suspected criminal team of Casey Eric Crowley and Elizabeth Karen Crowley during an early May traffic stop.

These two burglary suspects from Emanuel County were indicted on one count felony theft by receiving stolen property. Casey Crowley took additional counts of marijuana and methamphetamine possession.

The suspects also face multiple burglary charges in Emanuel County.

The saga began Wednesday, May 1 when an Emanuel County sheriff’s officer contacted MPD Detective Anthony Henderson in reference to two burglary suspects possibly in Milledgeville. He jumped right on the Crowleys’ trail with the help of fellow police detectives.

A third party from Emanuel County who was already in custody identified the two.

The husband and wife team had apparently been in the Savannah area, just before heading to Milledgeville. What brought the pair to Milledgeville remains a mystery.

The MPD detectives’ bureau began to find evidence of the twosome laying low here in the city.

Police connected the Crowleys with two items pawned at local pawnshops and were able to find where they had rented a storage unit and possessed a Penske Rental truck.

Henderson found a possible local hideout for the fugitives.

Police began canvassing the Milledgeville motel where reports placed the suspects.

Henderson spotted the pair leaving the motel in a white SUV. Shortly after, officers from MPD executed a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Knowing a little on the history of Casey Crowley, several officers and detectives converged on the suspect’s vehicle. Both Crowley and his wife were taken into custody without incident.

During the traffic stop, the female Crowley freely handed over a clear plastic baggy, suspected to contain methamphetamine.

The duo was transported to MPD for pending local charges.
