Local teen Josh Thompson who battles testicular cancer will have the chance to undergo the first of four surgeries due to the recent Georgia Cancer Support and Chick-fil-A fundraiser.
"The actual night of the fundraiser was overwhelming; the love and support was tremendous. We plan to leave Saturday for Indiana University so Josh can have the first of four surgeries," said Leigh Thompson, Josh’s mother. "Early detection is so important. We teach our daughters to be aware of their growing bodies, but our sons also need to be aware."
With funds also donated by Dr. Noell Craig and the community, the Thompson family received nearly $5,000 Tuesday. Dr. Craig, Milledgeville Chick-fil-A Operator Curt Flournoy and Magnolia State Bank Loan Officer Cheryl Crumbley, on behalf of GCS, presented Josh and his family with the final check.
St. Stephens Episcopal Church on South Wayne Street plans to hold a community prayer vigil for Josh at 6 p.m. Monday.
To aid Josh in his battle with cancer, funds can be donated at MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union on Hammock Road in the account Team Josh.
