UPDATE: GSP releases name of driver in fatal wreck

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the driver killed in a Monday afternoon wreck on Ga. Highway 49.

Sixty-five-year-old Timothy Collins was the driver killed in the fatal three-car accident.

According to a statement from the Department of Public Safety Information Office, around 12:40 p.m. a Toyota Scion IQ driven by Collins was traveling south on Ga. Highway 49. A Ford Fusion and Mitsubishi Mirage were traveling north on the roadway. The Scion crossed the double yellow centerline and struck the Ford Fusion head-on. After impact, the Scion rotated and the driver was ejected.

After the Scion and the Ford collided, the Mirage left the roadway to avoid another collision with the Scion and went into a ditch.

Baldwin County Sheriff's Office deputies, EMS and the Baldwin County Fire Rescue arrived on scene shortly after the call came in. A GSP trooper was already at the scene of the wreck when they arrived. The area remained blocked off for at least an hour as law enforcement and emergency personnel continued to work on the accident.

Collins, the driver of the Scion, died on scene.

The two others involved in the accident were injured, according to sheriff’s office officials. One of the two injured motorists was transported to Oconee Regional Medical Center.

There are no charges in accident.
