Attempted child abduction in local community

MILLEDGEVILLE — Thursday a call came in to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office involving an attempted child abduction occurring on Harrisburg Road.

According to an incident report, 911 dispatch received a call June 19 at about 4:39 p.m. in reference to a man trying to coerce two juveniles into his vehicle.

The incident took place in the 100 block of Harrisburg road in which a black male driving a small dark blue pick-up truck approached the juveniles while they were riding their bicycles.

The juveniles told the deputy that a man came up to them in a truck and tried to get them to leave with him.  

He tried to convince the children to come with him by offering to give them whatever they wanted, the report said.

The man was described as a black male, approximately 5'4 with a low cut afro wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

According to a relative of the complainant, the 14-year-old girl who was with the two juveniles at the time approached the man and told him that the children were not going with him.

When the man was told no he exited the vehicle and began to physically assault the young girl, the report said.  

After a brief struggle, the unknown man got back in his truck and drove away.

The sheriff's office has issued a BOLO to surrounding agencies and counties.
