Alleged oxy dealers indicted

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Ocmulgee Drug Task Force (ODTF) arrested nine individuals Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, who at the time, were connected with almost all of Milledgeville's illegal prescription pill market.

Three of those, Cathy Butts, Charles Butts Jr., Cassandra Faye Butts, were indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury Tuesday

Cathy was indicted for two counts selling Oxycodone and one count possession of marijuana misdemeanor. Cassandra and Charles had single counts for selling Oxycodone.

In the major operation, the ODTF traveled to five different residences during the morning hours.

Along with supporting Baldwin County Sheriff's office deputies, the task force confiscated three vehicles, $2,000 cash and five large pill bottles.

The investigation began last August.

ODTF Commander Wesley Nunn said agents bought $900 worth of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Loratab and Xanax pills from the suspects.

Nunn said what's most bothersome is that the sellers likely got these pills paid for by government subsidies.

One suspect admitted to earning up to $700 monthly, which she claimed supplemented her income.

Most of the suspects, like Cathy Butts, were older folks.

“This one person is supplying about 30 to 40 percent of the pills here in Baldwin County,” Nunn said last fall. “They are responsible for a lot of this getting into the streets.”

The wheelchair bound Cathy Butts allegedly filled a prescription at the drug store and with two grandkids in tow sold to a confidential informant in the parking lot.
