Father, son home invaders sentenced

MILLEDGEVILLE — Joseph Walter Pagan and his son Joseph Lee both entered pleas in Baldwin County Court Monday and were sentenced for burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and false imprisonment relating to a January home invasion case.

Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant District Attorney Stephen Bradley said the older Pagan was sentenced to 25 years serving 12 years, while Lee pleaded to 20 years to do 10, respectively.

“Law enforcement spent a lot of time trying to solve the case and get folks into custody before things got worse. It ended up being a very solid case against them,” Bradley said. “We were more than prepared to go to trial, but we are pleased to get a good result in court, especially one that saves the system time, energy and money.”

According to reports, the Pagans, along with a third suspect, Tommy Register, entered a Sinclair Marina Road residence around 1 a.m. Jan. 22 and assaulted the male and female occupants, while demanding money. The two victims were duct taped and robbed of around $300.

The Pagans brandished a knife and a black pipe, while Register allegedly used some type of long gun during the robbery.

Capt. Brad King, of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, said at the time of the crime the pipe was used to strike both victims.

“Both were certainly threatened with the knife and the firearm,” King said in January.

Bradley said one of the co-defendants admitted drugs were involved.

“Fortunately, the victims are OK,” the assistant DA said.

The female victim was able to get free and release the other, according to the sheriff’s report.

The female stated she recognized all three men even though they wore ski masks. The woman indicated that she knew the older Pagan because she used to live with him and her ex-boyfriend, who owed Pagan money.
