Fall in love with First Friday

MILLEDGEVILLE — Residents of Baldwin County have been falling in love with Milledgeville Main Street's First Friday for close to two fun filled years.  This month's First Friday event will mark the second anniversary of everyone's favorite Friday event. 

Providing a place for local artists to showcase their unique talents has always been the main objective for the First Fridays Committee.

"Just a little over two years ago when we first put together the First Friday Committee, our goal was to bring the community together in a celebration of the diverse artistic talents that make up Milledgeville,” said Milledgeville Main Street Director Carlee Schulte. "It feels good to know that you've provided someone with a venue for their talent that may not have been readily available to them elsewhere."

First Fridays have helped local artists from various aspects of talent such as painting, drawing, ceramics, music, theatre, photography and culinary arts. 

The theme for the very first First Friday was HeArts in the Ville. It was a Valentine's Day theme that featured local art work in downtown businesses, but everything did not go as planned. 

“I remember it just wouldn't stop raining and I was afraid our very first First Friday would be our last.” said Schulte.

The determination of the First Friday Committee was no match for the unpredictable weather conditions. They pushed through and two years later, they are still filling the sidewalks of downtown Milledgeville with excited children, enthused adults and welcoming merchants. 

This year's February First Friday will be a tribute to that rocking decade, the 80s. Come fall in love with the 80s all over again with 80s hits karaoke, an 80s video game competition at Digital Bridges, and an 80s costume contest. A $5 entry fee is required to enter the video game competition. The costume contest will feature three categories: college, community and kids. There will be a $5 entry fee for individual entries or a $15 fee for a group entry. The costume contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. in front of Capital City and winners will be judged by crowd applause. The prize money will go to the winner's favorite local charity.
