Elderly, caregivers invited to Community Health Fair

MILLEDGEVILLE —

The Baldwin County Healthcare Coalition is encouraging the elderly and caregiver population to take advantage of a free opportunity to learn about various healthcare-related topics and services available in Baldwin County and surrounding areas.

The group is presenting its first-ever Community Health Fair from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Central Georgia Technical College’s Milledgeville campus in the new Center for Health Sciences facility.

Around 70 vendors have confirmed their attendance for the event, offering education and promoting services in short-term rehab, long-term care, hospice care, home health services, veteran benefits, assisted living, therapy and rehab, adult daycare, sleep wellness, reverse mortgage, estate planning, elder law, exercise programs, medical equipment, Medicare, medication and more.

“We’re really focused on individuals aged 55 and older and caregivers for seniors,” said Lynn Futch, coordinator of the Baldwin County Healthcare Coalition. “There will be free vision screens and minor eye glass repair, free pulse ox tests, free blood pressure screenings, free hearing tests and a lot of educational materials at each booth.”

From 8 to 10 a.m., reduced price labs will be offered, including blood tests for complete blood count, lipid panel, thyroid-stimulating hormone, comprehensive metabolic panel and prostate-specific antigen. Individuals interested in receiving a test must fast prior to the lab and pay in cash. Refreshments will be available following labs.

Around nine speakers will also speak on their topic of expertise, including diabetic foot care and Peripheral Vascular Disease, understanding Medicare, elder law, Medicare wellness program, POLST and Advanced Directives, identity theft and scams, when to seek urgent care, estate planning and oncology. Speakers will hold sessions at varying times, starting at 10:30 p.m. and continuing to 1:10 p.m.

Door prizes and giveaways will be handed out throughout the day while Z97 FM will be on site with a live remote.
