MILLEDGEVILLE — The Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra will hold auditions next month for new members.

ORSO is preparing for its third season of rehearsing and performing free concerts in Milledgeville.

Auditions are open for violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, or timpani mallets.

ORSO was launched in 2011 and features musicians of all levels from throughout the area. The orchestra’s first performance was held in fall 2011. The first performance featured “Classical Favorites,” and was held at Russell Auditorium. A second show held the following spring was titled “An Afternoon of Overtures.”

Orchestra members include college students, faculty and staff and community members from Milledgeville and surrounding areas including Eatonton and Sandersville that auditioned. They are all musicians age 16 or older who share a common love of music and play strings, woodwind, brass or percussion.

Those who can read music and own their own instrument are invited to audition and take part.

Auditions are by appointment with music director and conductor David Johnson.

Auditions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Porter Hall on the Georgia College campus, 210 N. Wilkinson St.
