Kids Matter scholarship for 0- to 3-year-olds awarded

The Kids Matter Scholarship program awarded $6,000 in scholarships to two area children Thursday.

Finalists in the 0 to 3 years old category were infant Liberty Ann Davis and 3-year-old Jack Purvis.

The Union-Recorder Publisher Keith Barlow drew the winning number that saw Purvis win a $5,000 scholarship while Davis took a $1,000 scholarship.

Sponsors for the program support activities including the scholarship giveaway. Kids Matter is in its third year of operation and has given scholarships to Baldwin County children of all ages.

The drawing was held at Serenity Day Spa where a small group gathered to witness the announcement of the results. Davis is likely the youngest scholarship recipient in the program’s history.

Currently, applications are being accepted for children ages 4 to 8. The deadline to apply is June 30.

Davis is the daughter of Leslie Davis and Purvis is the son of Gary and Kimberly Purvis.

Kids Matter sponsors include the Milledgeville Exchange Club, The Union-Recorder, the Milledgeville Rotary Club, Southside Equipment, Exchange Bank, U-Save Auto Rental, Wilkinson Title Pawn, Wilkinson Used Cars, Flooring America, Truss Specialties, Serenity Wellness Spa & Salon, Choby’s at Little River, Little River Park Campground and Marina, Z-97 and Country 102.3 and AM-1450.
