A marker designating the spot on which the experimental Peabody Model School once stood was unveiled Friday on the campus of Georgia College and State University.
The alumni of the experimental school that counts Flannery O’Conner among its graduates gathered in celebration of their much-loved institution.
“It was wonderful. We had such valuable experiences,” said Francis “Deedie” Sibley, 1945 alumna of the Peabody High School. “We drew a lot from the student teachers when we were in school.”
The school served as a training ground for would-be teachers at the college. Sophomore and juniors in the college would observe the classes while seniors would teach the students, earning as many as 150 hours of work experience before receiving their teaching certificate.
