Music at the Mansion

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College Department of Music presents Music at the Mansion on the lawn of the Old Governor’s Mansion in Milledgeville on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.  Bring your picnic basket, blanket and friends. Ten different ensembles will play a variety of music that is sure to delight and entertain.

This is the first time the music department and the Governor’s Mansion have teamed up in this charming outdoor musical adventure. The concert is free and open to the public and donations are requested to go toward music scholarships. The music will move inside the mansion in case of rain.

Professor of Music Maureen Horgan, producer of the event, said this will be like the old-fashioned Concerts In The Park.

“It will be an informal and relaxed setting of music, food and fun,” said Horgan.  “You can’t find a better place to bring your blanket.”

During the concert, audience members will be serenaded and entertained by many types of music. The ensembles that will perform include: String Quartet, coached by Dr. Dan Auerbach; Flute Ensemble, coached by Ms. Lisa Bartholow; Saxophone Ensemble, coached by Dr. Stephen Fischer; Woodwind Ensemble, coached by Ms. Rebecca Cook; Guitar Ensemble coached by Dr. Dustin Woodruff; Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Maureen Horgan; Brass Quintet and Tuba Quartet, which include members drawn from the Brass Ensemble; Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Clifford Towner; and Max Noah Singers, directed by Dr. Jennifer Flory.

“We have some really fine small ensembles in the music department, and this is their chance to shine,” said Dr. Horgan.

For more information or directions to the concert, call (478) 445-8289 or email chris.osteen@gcsu.edu.

The Governor’s Mansion is located at 120 S. Clark St., Milledgeville, Ga.
