MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society will open the doors of the Legislative Chamber at the Old Capitol for the fourth annual Victorian Holiday House Auction and Party, a popular fundraiser to support the ongoing preservation of the historic Brown-Stetson-Sanford House.

“Members of the Museum Society have been collecting items throughout 2012, and this year’s event will be the best auction yet with a wider variety of pieces, including porcelains, furniture, crystal, silver, art work and accessory items that run the stylistic gamut from primitive to traditional to art deco and whimsical,” said Gloria Prance, chair of the event. “We have something to appeal to every taste and budget.”

Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society held the first auction in 2008 when items were sold that no longer complemented the mid-nineteenth-century focus of the interior décor at the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House.

“The challenge was to find people who would treasure the lovely antique pieces no longer appropriate for the house and to raise funds to support the creation of a museum depicting life in the historic old capital city of Milledgeville during the 1850 to 1880 period,” said Ann Vinson, chairperson of the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House Committee. “Our first auction was overwhelmingly successful, and we continued the event the following year. Now people eagerly anticipate the auction and party, calling for information months in advance. This is an opportunity to have a really fun evening for a great cause, as all proceeds go to support the ongoing preservation of the house and the educational programs of the Museum.”

This year’s event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. with a members only preview from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Will Jarriel, owner of Jackson’s at Sinclair will present a sumptuous array of hors d’oeuvres to delight guests.

Tickets for the 2012 Victorian Holiday House Auction and Party are $25 for museum members and $30 for non-members, available at the museum, Grants Jewelry, the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, the local Chamber of Commerce, Craig-Massee Realty, Lake Sinclair Furniture and Maggie Lane in Eatonton.

The Legislative Chamber of the Old Capitol Building is located in the center of the Georgia Military College campus at 201 E. Greene St. A shuttle will be available from the north gate.
